Why Boring exists

The news the way your grandparents got it, built for today.

The news has an end

The news used to arrive once a day. Around-the-clock news changed that. With hours to fill and attention to hold, coverage leaned on alarm and on rhetoric that keeps you watching rather than telling you what happened. Boring publishes one edition each morning with a limited number of stories. When you reach the end, that’s the news, and you can get back to your life.

Every side, in one place

Coverage is increasingly split by politics, and the full picture usually sits somewhere between the versions any one outlet gives you. So each story is written from a balanced mix of the outlets that covered it, sticks to what they report, and shows where their coverage differs. The main edition’s stories need coverage from both the left and the right, or from the center. We don’t tell you which side is right.

Everyone on the same page

Most people used to start the day knowing the same few things. Boring cuts the fluff, summarizes each major story, and publishes them together as one daily edition.

Corrections in the open

The news sometimes gets things wrong or misses them, and so can we. Readers can tell us what we missed or got wrong, and every correction we make is logged on the story and on the Corrections page, dated and with its sources.
